Electrolux

New Product Development

Client: Electrolux

Project: Electrolux Dishwasher

Opportunity:
Electrolux came to New Standard looking for more cost effective ways to produce their stainless steel tub components for the Electrolux Dishwasher product line. New Standard Engineers worked with the Electrolux Design team on components for nearly two years.

Solution:

This early engagement with Electrolux came at a time when New Standard had no other business with Electrolux or its subsidiaries. The project took New Standard to countries as far as Italy, Poland, Sweden and other European destinations. The engineers began at the model level where New Standard modified existing Electrolux Models and sent those to corporate for approvals. As part of the relationship, Electrolux installed an oven to bake insulation onto the stainless steel components into New Standard’s Rocky Mount plant. Together, both companies selected the equipment to produce the components and the most cost effective place to purchase the press equipment.

Result:

The relationship that started in design resulted in New Standard investing over $7 million in equipment and buildings to produce stainless steel dishwasher components.

  • To date, New Standard is the only private company making stainless steel tub components as original equipment for a supplier.
  • The process resulted in New Standard producing all of Electrolux’s internal stamping business with six presses and support equipment along with 19 tools.
  • The tools alone created over 25,000,000 pieces each year.
  • Transfer was completed without interruption in supply, with no work stoppage, and savings were over $500,000 per year.
