Load Up to Production
Client: Caterpillar
Opportunity:
The largest equipment and engine manufacturer in the world contacted New Standard to develop a new automated process for assembling oil cooler bundles to be used within Caterpillar’s engines and hydraulic systems. The current process was manually driven internally at CAT.
Solution:
New Standard integrated the manual assembly process first. Several key issues including a wide variety of bundles within the product mix, several materials, a variety of baffle placements, and two different diameters of tubing, were some of the items considered in developing the automated process. Over several months, New Standard engineers developed the necessary expertise in assembling the bundles to move forward with an automated solution.
Results:
New Standard engineers developed and implemented a patented automatic assembly machine concept capable of covering the broad product variation requirements. This process led to the establishment of a separate manufacturing operation for the bundle assembly which improved both product quality and cleanliness. Innovation continues allowing for various geometries of bundles to fit new applications. Caterpillar also realized reduced costs in production across the board.
